Pyjama Party
This character is taken from a series of illustrations I produced for a children’s story book. The tale was about a child who couldn’t get to sleep at night because they were too scared. Whenever it was bedtime, the poor boy was unable to stop worrying about all the terrible things that could happen while he slept. Above all else, his biggest fear was the monster that lived under his bed.
Well, without going in to much more detail, it turned out he was right about there being a monster under his bed, however, it turned out that it was an incredibly friendly and helpful monster that just wanted to look after him and keep him safe at night.
The monster soothed the boy, debunking his fears and providing explanations for all the sights and sounds that would usually scare him or cause him to worry through the night. With the monster looking out for him, the boy was able to drift off peacefully and enjoy a deep, soothing night’s sleep.
This story carried a wonderful message and was the perfect tale for parents to share with a child who was apprehensive about bedtime, helping to put a friendly spin on traditional fears.
This particular illustration shows the moment when the hero proudly emerges from his home, bright eyed and bushy tailed after a full and refreshing night of sleep.
Luckily, I have never had problems sleeping. The moment my head hits the pillow, I’m fast asleep. Plus, I sleep so deeply, that there could be a whole host of beasts beneath my bed and I still wouldn’t bat an eyelid!
