Good Grief!
This is a piece of work I did for fun, rather than a commission. As I’d hope you can tell, it’s a pastiche drawing of my family inspired by the the artwork of Charles M Schulz
I have always been a fan of Schulz’s artwork and story telling and the way he makes me feel nostalgic for an all American childhood I never actually experienced. Despite not growing up playing baseball in sandlots, I felt I really related to the lives and experiences of the characters in his stories.
I also admire the fact that he insisted on including strong female and black characters in his stories despite this being met with strong push back from some of his publishers!
I loved the worlds Schultz created within his comic strips. The meditative, downbeat tone of the stories and characters resonated with my understanding of life and the strip featured a host of realistic and well developed characters, each complete with their own unique personality and distinct world view making it almost impossible to pick a favourite amongst them all.
Who is your favourite character? (Assuming you’re able to pick one of course!)
