Japan North
Here is a logo I designed for a Japanese retailer based in, wait for it, the north of England. Sometimes, the best names are the most straight forward!
Japan North are a relatively young Leeds based independent that retail all manner of Japanese food, drink, kitchen wear and ceramics, making them the perfect one stop shop for any northerners who want to immerse themselves in Japanese cuisine or any Japanese residents who struggle to find more traditional ingredients in the large supermarkets.
When I was asked to help design this logo I was thrilled, as it was a way to help an independent business that I wanted to contribute to. Personally, having recently gone solo myself, I would always rather support local independent companies over faceless, tax dodging mega corporations.
I think that it feels good supporting somebody who decided to follow their passion in order to offer something to their community and, by backing them, you are not just helping their business grow but also encouraging the sense of community spirit to flourish too!
I had a great deal of fun designing this logo and generated so many rough ideas before finally settling upon this one. I wanted the design to be a slightly ambiguous combination of both the Japanese flag and a piece of delicious salmon maki- my absolute favourite variety of Sushi. Not the most subtle of ideas, but i think it works well in this instance!
