Thumbs Up
This illustration was created for use as a congratulatory image on a gift card. I wanted the design to be bold and cheerful to reflect the statement on the card. Someone is receiving a confident and clear, ‘Thumbs Up’ message as a result of having achieved something positive in their life!
I felt the design needed to be simplistic and bold. It is for this reason that I used a very limited colour pallet and solid, thick lines to really help the image stand out. I also included some halftone within the design to help add some texture and depth.
When used correctly, halftone can really help to create interesting layers of shade in an illustration and it’s definitely a technique I plan to explore further in my work.
